VALA2018 CALL FOR LATE BREAKING CONTENT

With the introduction at VALA2018 of EPosters, for the first time VALA invites the library IT community to propose Late Breaking Content for inclusion at the 19th Biennial Conference, VALA2018 – Libraries, Technology and the Future.

The Online Portal is now open for the receipt of brief abstracts for EPOSTERS ONLY. Abstracts of no more than 200 words will be considered by the Program Committee pre-Christmas, and EPosters must be able to be completed and lodged by 30 January 2018.

Please note, in lodging an abstract, you must intend to register for the Conference. Accepted EPoster presenters will be provided with access to the Early Bird registration rates.

EPOSTER ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance or otherwise is at the discretion of the Program Committee with notifications sent to the contact author by 19 December 2017.

CONFERENCE CONCEPTS

VALA2018 is seeking abstracts relevant to the following broad concepts:

  • Information access
  • Information architecture
  • Information management
  • Information retrieval
  • Information seeking
  • Information education and collaboration
  • Knowledge representation and reasoning
  • Emerging trends and technology

Abstracts with a strong technology, R&D or future focus will be favourably considered.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION

EPoster Authors and co-presenters will be able to register their full or day conference attendance via the Registration Portal; upon acceptance a link will be emailed providing access to the best rates, including Early Bird.

The invitation to submit an abstract does not constitute an offer to pay travel, accommodation or registration costs associated with the Conference. Similarly, no presenter fee is paid to successful participants.

All presenters must register and pay for the Conference by 30 January 2018.

SUBMITTING AN EPOSTER ABSTRACT

Online abstract submission is a 2-step process, which is fully outlined in the abstract presentation portal.

NOTIFICATION OF ABSTRACT ACCEPTANCE

Contact Authors will be notified on 19 December 2017 whether the abstract has been accepted or not. Please ensure the details provided for the contact author are for the nominated main contact for your abstract. All correspondence relating to the submission will be directed to this person, and they should in turn distribute to all co-presenters.

ABSTRACT ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance or otherwise is at the discretion of the Program Committee with notifications sent to the contact author by 31 May 2017.

PRESENTATION TYPES

Authors will be required to indicate their preferred presentation format when submitting an abstract, as follows:

  • Presentation
  • E-Poster Presentation (NEW to VALA2018)
  • Either/Both

Presentation

If an abstract is accepted for a presentation, a full paper is required to be submitted by 18 August 2017. VALA2018 Conference papers undergo a quality peer-review process. Authors will have the opportunity to respond to reviewer input, edit and update papers, with final papers completed by 27 November 2017. Papers will be presented at the Conference in the nominated session.

E-Poster Presentation

For the first time, VALA2018 is offering the opportunity for an E-Poster presentation. Accepted authors will prepare their research project within the supplied template to be displayed as a digital poster at the Conference. The template, guidelines and briefing documents will be sent to E-Poster presenters in due course. The displays will be available in the Exhibition Hall for delegates to view and will be available electronically following the Conference. Please note no presentation or paper is required if accepted for an E-Poster.

Either/Both

Authors who wish to be considered for both styles of presentation should nominate the third option for consideration – either a Presentation or an E-Poster Presentation.

The invitation to submit an abstract does not constitute an offer to pay travel, accommodation or registration costs associated with the Conference. Similarly, no presenter fee is paid to successful participants.

All presenters must register and pay for the Conference by 27 November 2017 in order for the presentation to be included in the Conference Program.

PREPARATION OF YOUR ABSTRACT

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • All abstracts must be prepared according to the guidelines provided.
  • Incomplete or incorrect submissions will be returned to the author and must be re-submitted immediately in the correct format to be considered for inclusion in the program.
  • All fields on the online abstract submission form must be completed.

You will be able to access your Abstract Presentation Portal account to review your abstract until 19 April 2017. If you wish to edit or replace an abstract submission that has been successfully loaded, please email the Conference Office. Abstracts must be submitted by the presenting author who should complete all fields on the online submission form.
