VALA Events 2021: Leaning In with prospective VALA Committee Members

What does it mean to be a committee member, what’s involved, what makes a good committee member and why is it good for your career?

To fuel your interest, current and former members of the VALA Committee will be hosting a free Leaning In event to share their experiences and answer your questions. Join host and VALA President Michelle McLean from midday til 1.00pm (AEST) on Wednesday 2 June 2021 for a 1-hour Zoom Meeting.

Topic: Prospective VALA Committee Members

The VALA Committee provides governance, policy and strategic direction for the Association and is made up of 10 people just like you – individuals working with technology in the library and allied professions.

If you’ve ever considered joining the VALA Committee or wondered what is involved, current and former Committee members will be hosting a free Leaning In event to share their experiences and answer your questions. Find out what it means to be a committee member, what makes it so enjoyable and why it is good for your professional development.

  • What does it mean to “give back”? Want to give back to the organisation that you value? Don’t know what you can do? Why not consider joining the VALA Committee?
  • What do I need to bring? What skills do I need? What responsibilities will I have?
  • WIIFM? (What’s in it for me?) How can a Committee role support my professional growth and development?

Learn how you can meaningfully contribute to serving the association and its purpose and values, whilst working alongside similarly passionate and vibrant people.
