Research Support Community Day 2014

Monday 3 February 2014, 9 – 5:15pm

University of Melbourne, Copland (Basement) Theatre, 198 Berkley St, Parkville
Map: http://maps.unimelb.edu.au/parkville/venue/copland_theatre#.UtSOQvQW30c (close to Elizabeth St, but easy walk from Swanston St)

Following the success of the 2013 Research Support Community Day held in February at Griffith University as a pre-conference event to Information Online, a follow up event will be held in conjunction with VALA2014.

The program will include presentations from a variety of speakers including researchers, librarians and e-research specialists. In response to feedback from 2013 participants, the program will include expanded opportunities to network with other librarians and to hear what other Australian research and academic libraries are doing in the research support space.

The day is aimed at library staff with an interest in research support. You don’t have to be working in the area or have experience in delivering services to researchers; we would prefer a wide range of perspectives and welcome those new to academic libraries as well. Sessions will be facilitated by research librarians who face these issues every day, and there will be plenty of time for discussion.

Join us to explore developments and discuss the challenges of providing research support services

Tuesday 4 February 2014

CAUL information session for “newbies” (from the publishing community)

Every year, I deal with a whole wave of new people, either those who have been working in the industry before but just not with consortia generally or with CAUL in particular, or those not working with educational institutions or those new to the industry altogether. They may be working directly for publishers, or working for distributors who work with publishers …. telling them about CAUL and how our purchasing program, CEIRC, works, and what kind of information I need from them when they wish to put a group proposal to my members.

If you have people working with you who fit this description, please encourage them to sign up i.e. please do let me know who is interested in attending. Older hands are welcome too, of course, but you shouldn’t hear anything new. And if space is short, I may have to ask you to sit out.

Time: Tuesday 4 February from 10.50 to 12.30.

Venue: Hospitality Suites, Level 2, Melbourne Exhibition Centre, above the VALA exhibition hall.
(There are three rooms in “Suite 1” and we are in the largest – Hospitality Suite 4, at the top of the stairs from the entry door where you will be swiped in. This door is located opposite the VALA 2014 Conference registration desk (approximately) on the concourse. One of the staff on the desk can point you in the direction of the entry door to the Suite (which will be just a few metres away).)

Contact: Diane Costello, Executive Officer, CAUL – diane.costello@caul.edu.au to register.
