Streaming with Possibilities

VALA2014 asks: what are the possibilities in the data stream?

Just over the horizon is the future, one filled with the promise of a fully functioning national broadband network enabling faster access to digital resources, where technology facilitates business, collaboration, research and learning. In a world filled with big data and big ideas, our cultural institutions are transforming. Many are embracing social and are places that allow creativity and imagination to soar. Makers, hackers, gamers, crafters and readers are all welcome. Building social capacity in technology-rich spaces is just over the horizon in a future streaming with possibilities.

We seek individuals and institutions who are actively working within these new paradigms to tell their stories. How are technologies shaping cultural institutions? What technological skills are staff required to have? VALA2014 looks to the immediate future and seeks presenters working to embrace technological change in information and cultural organisations.

The VALA2014 17th Biennial Conference is the premier library technology conference and exhibition for this region. It is a platform for innovation that promotes the use and understanding of information and communication technologies across a broad sector of Libraries with increasing participation from the Galleries, Archives and Museums sectors.

In presenting at VALA, speakers benefit from a quality peer-review process, their work being published and made widely available. Be recognised, lead debate, gain professional development or class credits, improve job seeking: these have been some of the benefits gained from being part of a VALA conference.

Papers are academic by nature and will be delivered as a formal presentation, speaking to the paper. There are also opportunities to present in workshop formats. Please indicate if you wish to explore these options.

You are invited to suggest papers that relate in any way to innovative use of information and communications technology in cultural institutions, as suggested in the Conference Strands below.

Conference Strands
