VALA2022 Organising Committee

Conference Co-Chairs:

Ebe Kartus
Academic Libraries

Ebe is a cataloguer with around 30 years experience (so quite long in the tooth). She has a passion for resource description and wishes libraries would implement linked open data so that better visualisations could be built for our users. She has worked on a number of national and international committees including the RDA Steering Committee (RSC). She is still trying to move over more to the systems area so that she can keep an eye on how the data created by cataloguers is used. Ebe has worked in a wide variety of library environments including system vendors. She currently works in an academic library. For stress relief she potters around in her garden or reads a good book.

Committee Members:

Heather Bailie
Trinity College, University of Melbourne

Heather is the Leeper Librarian at Trinity College, University of Melbourne. This involves managing a library which serves a diverse population of international, theological and undergraduate students, and wrangling significant historical collections as well as up-to-date academic resources, but very little leaping about. Previously she has worked mostly in P-12 education in both government and private schools. Heather believes in efficiency and organisation and is passionate about using technology to achieve her goals. Her motto is “Learn, Do, Teach” – she loves to learn by playing and isn’t afraid of seeing what will happen if she just pushes that button.

Keren Moskal
University of Melbourne

Keren is a clinical librarian at Monash Health committed to delivering high quality health information to support patient care, research and education. She is focused on delivering user centred training and education programs in evidence-based practice, information and digital literacy and has become slightly addicted to advanced literature searches for medical research questions.  As a recent Master of Information Management graduate, Keren considers herself an emerging professional who is still exploring and gaining knowledge and skills. She is dedicated to her ‘new’ GLAMR career and actively seeks out learning opportunities and ways to engage beyond her day-to-day clinical librarian role, particularly in the areas of digital preservation, research data management, library systems and metadata.

David Studham
Melbourne Cricket Club

David has worked at Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) Library since January 1994, and is responsible for the provision of knowledge management services and advice across the broad range of operations undertaken by the MCC.

David has over 25 years’ experience of the “Special Libraries” sector, a period of revolutionary change with the embrace of digital technologies. His work also involves harnessing the specialist knowledge of the sports history communities’ unsung experts – specialist researchers and volunteers – as well as working collaboratively with colleagues in the MCC Archive and Museums, and the broader Melbourne Cricket Ground community.

David’s interest in sports history had its genesis in 1977, attending the Centenary Test Match as a wide-eyed nine year old. His fascination with heraldry arose from a childhood discovery of the MinterLib Heraldry and Genealogy collections, stored at his local library in Kew.
