Co-design an ILMS for the Future

Library system vendors are planning and developing the “next-gen” library systems. Have they got it right? Do librarians think that vendors have a good understanding of what Australasian librarians need into the future? What should a “next-gen” library system look like? What requirements would we include if we are going to tender for a new system? Participants in this workshop will be guided through the process of co-designing an ILMS of the future concept or prototype.

Expected outcomes:

A co-designed ILMS concept
Experience in participatory design methods.

Using Mobile and Social Media to Enrich the Visitor Experience

This workshop will explore ways mobile and social media technologies can be used to enhance people’s experience of galleries, libraries, archives and museums. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be invited to discuss how they are currently using mobile and social media and what plans they may have to integrate these technologies in the future.

Drupal Basics

Considering Drupal as a content management system, or just getting started? The Drupal Basics Boot Camp will introduce the core modules and terminology. Discover nodes and content types, comments, setting up user permissions and assigning roles. Classify content with the taxonomy module, establish vocabularies, and add terms to each vocabulary. Understand the relationship between modules, themes, regions, blocks and menus.

A Speed Date with Design Thinking

Design thinking is a human centred and collaborative approach to solving problems. But what exactly is design thinking? What does it mean in a practical sense? How can libraries use it for engagement now and transforming for the future?

This Boot Camp is fast, interactive and fun. It’s designed to give you:

a hands-on speed-dating experience of applying design thinking from start to finish
an understanding of what design thinking is, why you should care and who else is using it
an introduction to practical models, methods and tools to assist you in taking design thinking back into your workplace.

It will also provide the opportunity to discuss the potential impact design thinking can have on libraries for engaging stakeholders, designing new experiences, and co-creating future libraries according to community needs.

Working with the Trove API

In this Boot Camp, learn how to retrieve data from a website using an API. This session will concentrate on the Trove API. Learn what is needed to access the API. Gain an overview of the available methods for interacting with Trove and how you can refine your queries to extract just the data you require. By the end of the session, you will gain valuable ideas on how the data from the Trove API can be incorporated into your own website.

Requirements: To get the most out of this session, attendees should bring their laptops / notebooks. It is preferable that these be configured with a local web server (eg, Apache, MAMP, XAMPP) but this is not essential.
