The VALA2012 16th Biennial Conference and Exhibition is over, but you can download the Conference papers from our Conference Programme and VALA2012 Proceedings pages.

The VALA Conference promotes the understanding and use of communication technology in libraries and the related museums, archives and galleries services. VALA2012 featured invited overseas keynote speakers, plenary and concurrent sessions and an exhibition featuring the latest products from leading suppliers.

About the Conference

VALA thanks all participants in VALA2012 for making the Conference so successful. The trade exhibition was the largest VALA trade show yet. We had six plenary sessions and forty-five papers in fifteen concurrent sessions, five VALAtech Boot Camp sessions, L-Plate Series, and a capacity Conference Dinner. A near-record number of people registered for the Conference and Exhibition, many came just to view the Exhibition, and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre was abuzz. Thankyou to all the Exhibitors, speakers, delegates, our Conference Organisers, and everyone who helped to make the Conference so good.

The conference theme of “eM-powering eFutures” looked to the future as our presenters embraced technological change in their workplaces and institutions, seeking ways to mobilise service delivery and granting service providers the skills and power to stay ahead of a connected and socialised client base. The keynote speakers, drawn from the USA, UK, Ireland and China, were chosen for their expertise and work with major projects of significant interest and their understanding of current key issues. Together with an impressive range of local and overseas speakers they reported on innovative projects and topics of current importance, ensuring that the conference provided a wide vision of emerging developments in libraries on both the local and world stage.

At VALA2012, we were enlightened and challenged by our global keynote speakers, engaged by our presenters, shared their journeys and stories, and took away ideas to contribute to new paradigms. Over four days, international speakers, invited guests and peer-reviewed papers informed, challenged and inspired. Our three-day exhibition was one of the largest we have organised, and provided opportunities to discover new solutions, revise old networks and create new partnerships.

Armed with the knowledge provided by attending the Conference and Exhibition, VALA delegates can make better, and more confident, technology decisions that will enhance the performance and efficiency of their information services.

The Conference Committee once again thanks all participants and looks forward to welcoming you to VALA2014.
