Research Support Community Day 2016

Date: Monday 8 February 2016

Time: 9:00am - 5:00pm

Venue: Deakin University, Melbourne City Centre, 3rd Floor, Deloitte Building, 550 Bourke Street, Melbourne

We are pleased to bring you once again, Research Support Community Day 2016, to coincide with the VALA Conference. This day is for anyone involved in research support and services in academic libraries.

The program will include presentations from a variety of speakers including researchers, librarians, government agencies, and e-research specialists. There will be opportunities to network and to hear what other Australian research and academic libraries are doing in the research support and services space.

The day is aimed at library staff with an interest in research support and services. You don’t have to be working in the area or have experience in delivering services to researchers; we encourage a wide range of perspectives and welcome all, including those new to academic libraries. Sessions will be facilitated by research librarians who actively develop and deliver research services, and there will be plenty of time for discussion.

This event is being hosted by Deakin University Library.

Thursday 11 February 2016

CAUL information session for "newbies" (from the publishing community)

Every year, I deal with a whole wave of new people, either those who have been working in the industry before but just not with consortia generally or with CAUL in particular, or those not working with educational institutions or those new to the industry altogether. They may be working directly for publishers, or working for distributors who work with publishers …. telling them about CAUL and how our purchasing program, CEIRC, works, and what kind of information I need from them when they wish to put a group proposal to my members.

If you have people working with you who fit this description, please encourage them to sign up i.e. please do let me know who is interested in attending. Older hands are welcome too, of course, but you shouldn't hear anything new. And if space is short, I may have to ask you to sit out.

Time: Thursday 11 February from 9.30-10.30 (and if over-subscribed, from 10.30-11.30).

Venue: Hospitality Room, Level 2, Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
The room is located on Level Two of the Exhibition Centre, overlooking the VALA Exhibition Hall and Melbourne Exhibition Centre Concourse. Attendees will have direct access from the exhibition hall (must be registered delegates, exhibitors or exhibition day visitors).
