As part of our ongoing efforts to further enhance the functionality and usefulness of our new web portal, VALA has introduced a series of logos that clearly identify: peer reviewed papers, keynote presentations, invited papers, and papers presented by the VALA travel scholars.
Other than the keynote presentations (and a very small number of invited papers) very abstract and paper at a VALA biennial conference is peer reviewed by at least two reviewers. VALA's peer review process and conference programming is what ensures the quality and relevance of VALA's biennial conference. It also explains the steady growth in delegate numbers at successive conferences.
These new logos now appear on every biennial conference paper URL located on the new VALA web site. VALA conference paper URLs confirm each presentation's persistent URL as well as each author's institutional URL. The conference paper URLs also provide links to the paper and other associated material. They also provide a space for registered users to leave comments or provide notification of updated research and findings. The new VALA conference paper logos are as follows:
Delegates to the VALA2010 Conference not only set records for the number of tweets (#VALA2010 was the in the top 5 Australian hash tags for the week of the conference) they also took and shared lots of photos. Here is a very subjective sample of some of the photo that stood out for us. It would appear that VALA2010 was about attending lots of sessions and then eating cake and drinking wine. How very librarian.
