Abstract

This paper discusses the Yellow House VR project at the University of Wollongong. Innovative virtual reality technologies such as Oculus Rift are being utilised to recreate the 1970s Sydney artist community space known as the Yellow House, as both an historic replication and openly accessible, immersive teaching and learning environment for use and adaptation by teachers, students, researchers and the general community. The paper considers the role of the library in the enhanced presentation of digitised collections through new and evolving technologies which provide opportunities for knowledge enhancement and support the development of student e-portfolios.

Abstract

In 2013, the University of Melbourne offered its first MOOCs via Coursera. The technology enabled seven courses taught by academic staff from different disciplines to be delivered to anyone with an internet connection. The Library was included as part of the MOOCs development team from the start, collaborating with teaching staff through the hectic development phase, forging positive relationships with learning designers and production staff. This paper presents a case study that demonstrates the contribution that the Library has made to MOOCs@Melbourne.

Abstract

Higher education institutions have traditionally purchased separate systems to manage library services and to manage content for online learning. These systems are often procured separately and managed by units within the organisation with somewhat different operational objectives and business processes. This paper explores the feasibility of extending the brief for a new ILMS by including requirements for integrated management and access to all ‘learning resources’ irrespective of origin and format and describes how the institutional context as much as the technical options may influence the success of the system selection process.
