Abstract

Auckland University of Technology Library started work on a major redevelopment of its website in 2012. The problem was that the website content, as is the case for many library websites, had been written by librarians with almost no user input. The challenge was to redesign the website, rethinking our entire focus and placing the user at the centre of the process. This is the story of a journey of transformational change based on our user-centric approach. We believe we have achieved what we set out to do and created a website that’s built not for librarians but for users.

Abstract

CONZULSys was formed under the aegis of CONZUL (Council of New Zealand University Librarians) in a climate of increasing collaboration and the need to provide an efficient, cost effective library service to New Zealand university students, staff and researchers. The consortium began with four members – Auckland University of Technology, University of Otago, University of Waikato, and Victoria University of Wellington – for the joint purchase and operation of an Information & Resource Access Management System (IRAMS) to be managed in a hosted environment. Progress in implementation and future development of the consortium are outlined.

Abstract

AUT University Library is a member of LCoNZ, the Library Consortia of New Zealand which collaborated to install the Voyager system. Part of this collaborative activity included the installation of a federated searching service. The paper explores what happens when a library introduces a discovery tool, and then has to withdraw the service. The full text downloads statistics show the outcome of searches made using the EnCompass commercial federated searching service, Google Scholar and then return to a commercial federated searching service, 360 Search. The paper will detail further changes planned to ensure a successful transition into the Web 2.0 environment.
