Kat Clancy, Library Web Developer, Deakin University

A non-librarian working in the world of librarians, officially Kat provides expertise in the analysis, design, development and maintenance of the Library's web sites and applications. However, she also looks after the mobile catalogue, social media presence and is asked questions about anything that plugs into a wall to be used or charged.

Kat will be introducing Deakin University's mobile catalogue and talking about how Deakin are implementing a mobile friendly website. She will also share good examples of mobile websites and tell us why you shouldn't bother with a mobile application.

Craig has been University Librarian at RMIT University for nearly 8 years. Over the past 35 years he has worked in public libraries, as CEO at Yarra Plenty Regional Library, and the City of Coburg, and spent nearly 10 years with a system vendor. He has also been the President of ALIA, is currently the Chair of the Board of CAVAL, and was the recipient of the VALA Travel Scholarship in 1993.

He is fairly sure that QR codes are part of a massive conspiracy, the purpose of which remains a deep mystery. Craig is hopeful that the mystery will be unravelled with your assistance at the VALA meeting on Wednesday.

Rowan is the Communications and Marketing Advisor at RMIT University Library, and has a background in communications and has worked in Thailand and Ireland as well as at the University of Melbourne. She is new to the world of libraries, unless you count the untold hours spent hunched over dusty tomes as a student. She has worked at the RMIT University Library since May 2009.

Craig will be talking about the background of the QR code, and some viewpoints he picked up at ALA in June of this year, and Rowan will speak about RMIT University Library's brief experiment with QR codes last year.
