VALA AWARD 2008

The VALA Award, made biennially, is presented to the Australian library or information centre judged to have made the most innovative use of information technology during the previous two years.

Congratulations to Informit TVNews.

VALA TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIPS 2008

Every two years VALA offers up to two Travel Scholarships to enable suitable persons to travel overseas to examine aspects of library automation. Candidates proposing to study newer technologies of potential application in Australia but not yet seen here are most likely to be successful. No formal qualifications are required. Although candidates should be working in library or information related areas, they need not be employed in traditional library environments.

The successful candidates will receive up to $A13,000 towards travel, accommodation and living expenses. Successful candidates must complete their study by August 2009, and will be offered the opportunity of presenting a paper at the 15th VALA Biennial National Conference in February 2010.

Congratulations to Kathryn Greenhill.

ROBERT D. WILLIAMSON AWARD 2010

The Committee of VALA - Libraries, Technology & the Future Inc. makes an award biennially to an individual or organisation who or which is, in the opinion of the judging panel, currently making an outstanding contribution to the development of information technology usage in Australian libraries and is positively and significantly influencing development in information technology usage within libraries.

The Award consists of a framed certificate and a gift (or gifts) to the value of $1,000 (one thousand dollars). The Robert D. Williamson Award is announced and presented at the VALA Conference Dinner.

It is essential that nominees are NOT aware that they are being nominated for an award. Disclosure of a nomination may prejudice that nomination. Details of a nomination are only made public when a nomination is successful, and then only after presentation of the Award.

Nominations for this award are now open.
