Preservation, digitisation, and using social media to engage with the community: Lessons from the Australian War Memorial

VALA is delighted to present one of the leaders in field of digitisation and implementing social networking.

Hear Mal explain how the Australian War Memorial has addressed the issues of preservation of the collection, increasing online access, and engaging with the community.

About Mal Booth
Mal Booth became Head of the Research Centre at the Memorial in September 2001. His focus has been on the digitisation of records of war, and promotion of the Research Centre and its collections. Over the period 2006 to 2008 he curated the Memorial's major summer exhibition for 2007-2008 "Lawrence of Arabia & the Light Horse". He was recently made Chair of the Memorial's Web Strategy Group and consequently is responsible for the Memorial's new web directions and its use of social media. Prior to joining the Memorial he was Director Economics Analysis at Defence Intelligence Organisation. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, Graduate Diploma in Economic History, and is a graduate of the Royal Military College of Australia. Mal completed the Museums Leadership Program in 2005.
