Celebrating 30 Years of Looking ForwardGetting Interactive and Getting PortableSpeakers: Andrew Apostola, Creative Director and Founder of Portable Content, and Simon Goodrich Managing Director and Founder of Portable Content. As interactive content and interfaces shape up to be a hot issue for many libraries in 2009, VALA is delighted to present two widely respected leaders in field of interactive media at our last general meeting for 2008. Hear Andrew and Simon talk about how they create successful interactive web sites, build successful online communities, and find out more about what is going on with portable devices and interactive content. This is one meeting you can't afford to miss. About Andrew and Simon Andrew Apostola is the co-founder and Creative Director of Portable Content, an Australian based digital studio that designs and manages innovative web applications for a range of clients in the online space. In 2006 the company successfully launched portablefilmfestival.com, a user generated video site that distributes video to users through portable video platforms including iPods, mobile phones and laptops. Andrew has worked for a range of broadcasters and media providers and is well known for successfully launching the Student Youth Network alongside Portable Content co-founder Simon Goodich in Melbourne in 2003. The network is the largest youth media organisation in South-East Asia, operating a full-time terrestrial radio license and broadcasting on television and the web. Andrew has completed a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), a Post Graduate Diploma in English Literature at the University of Melbourne and Film and Television Production at Ryerson University in Toronto. Simon Goodrich is co-founder and Managing Director of the Portable Film Festival, and of Portable Content. He has over a decade of experience in the community media industry in Australia, and is widely known for his work as President and Manager of the Student Youth Network in Melbourne. Simon led SYN FM's successful application for a full time community broadcasting licence in 2001, and established the SYN FM school training program. He has served as a board member of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, the industry's national peak body, and conducted a number of successful national consultations to Federal Government, attaining increased support for broadcast training initiatives and the promotion of Australian music. Prior to Portable, Simon held the position of Business Development Manager of Diversitat, a community organisation in Geelong, Victoria. He is currently President of the Victorian Chapter of the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association, representing over 700 companies in the online media, advertising and interactive space; in 2008 he was recognised as one of Australia's leading entrepreneurs under the age of 30 by Anthill Magazine. Simon is also a member of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences the crew behind the Webby Awards, the premier international recognition for pioneering online initiatives. In 2009 Andrew and Simon will be launching Flickthru. Flickthru http://www.flickthru.com allows people to find, read, and create books and literature with their iPhone, mobile phone or portable device. It assists writers of all kinds to create novels, articles, travel books, screenplays and poetry wherever they are and publish their content online.
