Celebrating 30 Years of Looking Forward
Open Source and Libraries. Why, what to do, what to look out for, and what are the benefits.
Speaker: Dr. Matthias Raab, Chair the Melbourne Joomla User Group
While Open Source has been around for years, there has now been a renewed
resurgence in interest among libraries. There are open source catalogues such as
Evergreen, Koha, and the
OLE Project; social networking platforms such as
Word Press, or Wikimedia; and
content management systems such as Joomla,
Drupal or SoPac.
It is therefore with great excitement that VALA announces Dr Matthias Raab addressing the VALA Annual General Meeting at Melbourne University on Wednesday 24 June 2009.
About the speaker:
Dr. Matthias Raab chairs the
Melbourne Joomla User Group
and organises annual conferences for the growing
Joomla community in Australia and beyond.
As such, Matthais is very well placed to talk about open source software in general, and Joomla
in particular.
Dr. Raab is an experienced scientist and project manager with extensive, international
credentials in successful, high profile and complex projects in industry and academia.
Matthias holds specific interests in
project management, motivational leadership and innovation
in the resource and energy sectors. He is also a
Research Fellow within the School of Earth
Sciences at the University of Melbourne, with research interests in low temperature
thermochronology, passive margin evolution, and extensional tectonics.
Dr Raab’s address will follow the (brief) business of
the Annual General Meeting of the Association.
